Robert Amber married Permelia Freeman, the daughter of George A. Freeman, on Dec. 31, 1846 in Wabash Co. Indiana. The land that is now Half Acre Cemetery was owned by Robert Amber at the time of the establishment of the cemetery. Robert was elected Justice of the Peace in 1876 and 1880 and also served in the Union Army during the Civil War, enlisting as a private in Co. B, 118th Reg't, Indiana Infantry on Sept. 2, 1863. He was mustered out of that unit at Indianapolis on Mar. 1, 1864.
