Leander H. Arnold was born in Rhode Island circa 1853. He married Hattie Kimball in Chicago on 4 March 1885. They were the parents of 4 children: James A., born November 1885; a son, born January 1888; Florence A., born March 1889; and Alice D., born July 1893. Wife Hattie preceded Leander in death, on 29 March 1896. Following Leander's death, the couple's orphaned children were taken in by their widowed grandmother, Lydia Ann (Ferrington) Kimball, and subsequently moved to Galesburg, Knox county, Illinois to be near other family. Lydia died there in 1902, again leaving the children to be taken in by others.
