THE YOUNGEST SON OF A PIONEER FAMILY DIES
David Edward Corcoran, youngest son of William and Sarah Corcoran, one of the first pioneer families of the St. Edward Community, died July 3, 1955 at the age of 75 years.
This pioneer family migrated to this community from Dubuque, Iowa, having come by boat from County Cork, Ireland, to Dubuque, Iowa, and then to this community by covered wagon in 1879. They homesteaded across the road from what is now the Fairview School. Before the railroad was built, it was necessary for the father of this pioneer family to periodically take a wagon load of wheat to Columbus to grind for flour and to purchase food and clothing supplies.
Mr. David E. Corcoran was one of 10 children born on the homestead. He was married to Katherine Lohoff on April 26, 1904, at Albion, Nebraska, who now survives him. His surviving children include: Mrs. Louis Quinlan, Lincoln; Mrs. W.A. McCarty, Basking Ridge, N.J.; Mrs. Carl Lyon, Omaha; Francis L. Corcoran, West Lake, Oregon; and Leo T. Corcoran of this community. Other survivors include three sisters in Seattle, Washington, and one brother, Dan, of Hutchinson, Kansas, who is also well known to this community.
Mr. Corcoran's funeral was conducted from the St. Edward Catholic Church on July 6, 1955 and he was laid to rest in the family lot in the St. Edward Cemetery.
