Adams County
Pennsylvania, USA

Alexander Daniel Callcote was born in June 1830 and graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1851. He was employed as a teacher and farmer before the war. On June 23, 1861 Callcote was commissioned captain on Company K, 3rd Virginia Infantry and was subsequently promoted to major on April 27, 1862 and lieutenant colonel in March 1863.

Lt. Col. Alexander D. Callcote was killed as he led his regiment into the charge. The location of his wounding and nature of his wounds are unknown.

Lt. Col. Callcote was buried in the field, between the stonewall and the Emmitsburg Road. His remains were probably disinterred in the 1870s and removed to Hollywood Cemetery in the "Gettysburg Dead" Section in an unknown grave.
