GOOKIN
Arthur Earl Gookin, son of Joseph and Lulu Adams Gookin, was born September 28, 1896 near Russell, Iowa, and passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday, June 18, 1980, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 20 days. He had been in failing health for the past five years.
He was united in marriage to Mary Thompson on May 2, 1920, and to this union two boys were born, Ancil Earl and Roger Marion.
He was a farmer and spent his entire life in the Russell community until his retirement in 1968.
He was a long-time member of the Russell Methodist Church, transferring his membership to the First United Methodist Church in Chariton two years ago.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on July 26, 1967; one son, Ancil; two brothers, Harold and Dwight, and his parents.
On September 28, 1968, he was united in marriage to Lois Williams Mickle and they have since made their home in Chariton.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, one son; Roger and his wife, Wanda, of Melrose; four grandsons, Jon of Urbandale, Michael of Wilton, Joseph and Douglas, both of Melrose; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herman of Round Up, Montana and Lester of Chariton.
He is also survived by one sister, Nora Stevenson of Denver, Colo.; one step-son, Theodore R. Mickle and his wife, Barbara of Redlands, Calif.; three step-grandsons, Glenn of Pensacola, Florida, and Ronald and Stephen, both of Redlands, Calif.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 21, 1980, at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Koth and Rev. Wauneita McConnell conducting. Burial was in the Russell Cemetery.
