G. Beatrice "Bea" Kennedy, of Homedale, Died June 06, 2008 in a local nursing facility surrounded by her children. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale. Interment will follow at the Marsing-Homedale Cemetery.
Bea was born on Aug. 30, 1922 to Shelby and Goldie "Hurst" Hinds in Henryetta, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of six children. Bea married James Oliver Kennedy Aug. 18, 1940. They lived in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, a short time in California and Oregon finally moving to Idaho in 1961 where they lived in Meridian, Boise and then settling in Homedale for the remaining 27 years. Bea was a homemaker, caring for her family. When her children were older she began working outside the home. She worked at various nursing homes in the Boise area. Even after retirement age, and moving to Homedale, she worked at the hairdresser in the local nursing home. She loved that job and only resigned when she was injured from a fall and couldn't lift her arms up to do the ladies hair. Bea was a hospitable lady, always cooking up big dinners to serve those that dropped in for a visit - which was often. On Church workdays she would cook up a meal and bring it to the church for the workers. She was one of the best cooks around. When she was able she was always making cakes, pies, cookies, bread and doughnuts (her mom's special recipe with mashed potatoes). Bea enjoyed crafts, crocheting and sewing. She made beautiful afghans, dollies, and crocheted dolls which she won blue ribbions at the county fair. Months, before her passing she was crocheting items for a fund raiser. She loved talking on the phone with friends and family. She was the data bank for all that was happening in the family. In her earlier years she loved reciting poetry with all the animation which made it entertaining. Bea was a life-long member of the Church of God 7th Day. She also belonged to TOPS weight loss chapter in Homedale. She attended faithfully on a weekly basis during the years in Homedale. All of these ladies and men were like family to her - especially the leader, and wonderful friend Darlene Merchant, with whom she talked daily. Bea was a cancer survivor of approximately 27 years which resulted in an inconvenience for the remainder of her life but she never complained or felt sorry for herself. Her kids have always said, "We hope we can be as positive about life, in all that comes our way, as she was" Bea is survived by seven children, Vera (Sheffield) Kennedy of Homedale; Linda and Bill Ward of Notus; Lloyd and Lorraine Kennedy of Meridian; June O'Neill of Meridian; Sue and Larry Childers of Nampa; Wayne Kennedy of Nampa; Roger Kennedy of Boise; Phillip Kennedy of Homedale; three brothers, Bob and Carol Hinds of Tahlequah, Okla,; Duane and Wanda Hinds of Wilcox, Ariz.; and Wes and Elaine Hinds of Welling, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Oliver Kennedy, two sons, Lonny Kennedy and Greg Kennedy, two grandchildren, a sister Wanda Bowman and a brother, Silas Dean Hinds. Bea and Oliver had 27 grandchildren and 74 great and great-great-grandchildren. Viewing will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale.
