John and Matilda Plummer were married about 1830 and raised their children on a farm in Skowhegan, Somerset County, Maine. Their many children included Abby, Charles, Elizabeth, Emily, George, John, Rebecca and William.
Before 1860, some of John and Matilda's sons came to Columbia, California in search of gold. They were George W., John H., William and Henry.
George took a young MiWuk Indian girl, Mary Bailey, as his wife. She was the daughter of Indian Jim, and she was born in Gold Springs, near Columbia, as were both her parents. George and Mary had six children, Edward, Franklin, Alexander, John H., Phillip and William. Like their father, all the sons became gold miners, with the possible exception of John H., who may have been a baby or schoolboy at the time of his death in 1897.
By 1910, George Plummer had passed away. His wife, Mary, was living with their son, Edward, and his wife, Mattie Jackson, and children, Lilly, Fred and Reuben, Charles, Ada, Lulu and George. Two other children, Norman and Mary, were born later.
John H. Plummer was the first child of Mattie and Edward to pass away. The mortuary records state that he passed away in October 1897, but no age is included.
Mary was still alive in 1930, living with her grand-daughter, Lilly, and her great-grandchildren, Louis Arizona, Virginia Mills and Billy Mills. Lilly was the daughter of Edward Plummer.
Billy (William) Mills was born in Tuolumne County on January 30, 1921 and passed away April 27, 1973.
Lilly Plummer Pasini was born February 2, 1890 and passed away October 4, 1946.
