William Taylor Abney, 83, died at 12:05 p.m. Saturday at Bartholomew County Hospital.

Formerly of Kokomo, he had resided in Columbus the past five months with his son, William Cecil Abney of 2845 Washington.

Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Gerald Stump at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reed and Jewell Funeral home where calling hours will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Abney was born Jan. 27, 1900, in Glasgow, Ky., the son of John and Anna Saxton Abney. He was formerly married to Goldie Bennett O'Neal. He retired in 1962, after working for Continental Steel company of Kokomo 18 years. He was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Kokomo.

Surviving besides his son are a daughter, Lee Oma Vanchieri of Torrance, Calif.; one brother Jesse Lawrence Abney of Glasgow, Ky.; four sisters, Christen Harris and Nanie May Neal of Glasgow, Evie Jane Bruton of Crawfordsville and Elizabeth Watson of Kokomo, and 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
