Soldier Clipper, Obituary April 1, 1931 Obituary; Jane Dove was born August 4, 1845, at Zanesville, Ohio. Her father passed away in her early childhood. When she was twelve years of age the family, mother, stepfather and five children came west with ox team and covered wagon and located, July, 1857, in a log cabin on Soldier Creek north of the present residence of Fred Osborn. Jane lived here till her marriage, December 31, 1861, To Daniel Martin Thompson. In April 1862 Mr Thompson enlisted in the Union Army and spent three years of service in the Civil War, After which Mr. & Mrs. Thompson settled on the place just south of Soldier where they reared their family. Eleven children were born to them. Mr. & Mrs. Thompson were among the first members of the Soldier Methodist Church, assisting in the erection of the first church building and in the promotion of the early work of the congregation. Here they held membership all their lives. Since October 1898 the Thompson home has been in Soldier.
Mr. Thompson passed away March 24, 1906. Three of the children died in early childhood, William Richard, Ida Caroline, And Ninna May. Mrs Thompson has 108 living descendants. Had not deaths taken others away, there would have been 130. A brother, John Dove of Topeka, and a half brother, W. J. Fairbank of Soldier survive.
Grandma Thompson was a good woman, industrious and ambitious in her work, thoughtful of others, concerned always about the sick of the community. Despite her infirmities and advanced age she was hopeful of recovery of strength till the last, anxious to be up and about the tasks of life. at the time of her death which occurred Monday. Soldier, Jackson County.
The funeral was held Wednesday, April 1st in the Soldier Methodist Church, Rev. Mayfield and Rev. Hamm officiating. Burial was at Soldier Cemetery.
