William William Francis Chief Owens, Sr., 80, of Greensburg, PA, formerly of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2008.

He was born on June 7, 1927, the son of Frank A. Owens and Capitola Wingate Owens.

He grew up on Folly Beach, SC and graduated from Charleston High School.

He was employed as an electrician at the Charleston Air Force base and was also retired from the United States Navy. He was a veteran of World War II and was proud to have served his country.

He loved his family and was much loved in return.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jenkins Owens and his daughter, Deborah Owens.

He is survived by his children: Bill and Amy Owens of Greensburg, PA; Barbara and Kelly McKeithan and Vincent and Linda Owens all of Summerville, SC; his sisters: Tola Estkowski of Saint Joseph, MI and Lillian Ray of Charleston, SC and his brother: Henry Owens of New Orleans, LA; his grandchildren: Curt Owens, Jeff McKeithan, Will Owens, Amanda Owens, Erin Gallahorn and Matthew Gallahorn; his great-grandchildren: Lilli Owens and Hunter McKeithan.

Graveside service with military honors will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island, Friday, June 6th at 3:00 pm.

A celebration of the Chief's life will be held on Saturday, June 7th at 4:00 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church on John's Island. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the 3:58 Youth Group, Christ Church, 122 N. Maple Avenue, Greensburg, PA 15601 or the St. John's Youth Group, 3673 Maybank Hwy, John's Island, SC 29457.

McAlister-Smith West Ashley Chapel, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, is assisting the Owens family.
