Obituary
Mrs. Coddington Dead.
Death is gradually thinning out the ranks of the old settlers of this vicinity. Last Sunday evening at 6 o'clock Mrs. Coddington, living about two miles west of town, passed to her heavenly home. In her last hours she was surrounded by her family. They went with her as far as they could go, down to the brink of the dark river, bade her good bye, she steped (sic) into the turbulent stream and was borne from human sight and human association. Mrs. Coddington has for a number of years been making preparation for this time, and when the time came she was prepared to go, and as we believe entered into her heavenly and eternal home. While she goes away from friends here she joines (sic) the company of her friends and acquaintances who have gone from Diagonal to the land of Joy and Bliss forever.

Miss Demaris (sic) Stevenson was born in Wayne county Indiana, Oct. 26, 1835, and died Feb. 10, 1901. On November 15th 1856 she was married to C. W. Coddington. She was the mother of seven children, two sons and five daughters, all are living except one daughter who died in 1875. Her four daughters were present with her and administered to her in her last sickness. Neither of the sons were able to be present at the death or funeral.

For more than 50 years Mrs. Coddington has been a member of the Methodist church and was ever ready to give her testimony to the saving and keeping power of her blessed Master. Her last hours were full of peace and joy. The funeral was conducted at the family residence, west of town, on Tuesday Feb. 12th at 11 o'clock by Rev. J. D. Sparks, assisted by Rev. O'Fling. A large concourse of neighbors and friends attended the stricken family as they went with the remains of their loved one to Bethel cemetery where the burial occured (sic).

Mr. Coddington and his family have the sympathy of the entire community.
