Glen William Burton, 67, of Gering, NE died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at home with his family by his side. Funeral services were held Friday, May 23, at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff, NE with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Interment was in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering with military honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard. The Glen Burton Memorial Fund has been established in care of the family. Glen was born December 31, 1940 in Angora, NE to George Wilbur and Mable (Kern) Burton. He received his education in Bridgeport and Bayard, NE before entering the Army in 1960. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska and was honorably discharged.
He married Inez Ash on April 19, 1964 in Gering. They lived in Scottsbluff until 1965 when they moved to Gering. Glen worked for the Natural Resource Conservation Corps as a technician surveyor. He had over 44 years of employment with the federal government.
Glen was a member of Zion Evangelical Church, Oddfellows, Pheasants Forever, FARM, a hospital volunteer and a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. His hobbies were hunting with bow and rifle, camping, fishing and carpentry. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, driving and hiking in area canyons and photography. He was a past Cub and Boy Scout Master. He enjoyed tinkering with old farm machinery, telling jokes and playing pinochle.
Survivors include his wife Inez; children, Kevin (Amy) Burton and Debbie Cowan and fiancé Ronnie Judd of Mitchell, NE, Larry (Tracy) Jackson, Estherbrook, WY and Gary (Marla) Jackson Mullen, NE; brothers: Gene Burton, Bayard, Howard Burton, Texas and Merle Burton of Demming, NM; sister, Ruby Sherlock, Lakewood, CO; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Inez Scofield, Gering and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and brother Floyd.
