The pilot, Bill Trumble, 44, of Lamar, Colo., and his son, Don Trumble, 17, swam approximately 80 yards to shore, but Rainey apparently could not get out. Authorities found Rainey's body still strapped into his seat in the upside down airplane. Justice of the Peace W. E. Sims of Port Mansfield ruled death by drowning. The accident occurred about 400 yards south of the Port Mansfield jetties. Trumble told authorities the three had been fishing at Padre Island and the white Beachcraft Bonanza stalled as they took off from the beach. He said the plane, then nosed sharply into the water. Neither Trumble nor his son were injured. A nearby fishing vessel saw the plane go down and radioed for help. The Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary at Port Mansfield both sent ships to the scene. Rainey's body was taken to Duddleston Funeral Home in Raymondville and then transferred to Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice. Funeral arrangement will be announced by Holmgreen Mortuary. Information on survivors was not available last night." From Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, USA.
