A Shuqualak native, he moved to Swiftown in the early 1930s. He was a member of Swiftown United Methodist Church.
Survivors: wife, Frances; daughters, Frances Gardner of Bonifay, Florida, Christine Maxey of Inverness and Jean Abernathy of Swiftown; sons, Richard P. Aust, Jr., of Inverness, Robert Aust of Lexington, Walter Aust of Reeves, Louisiana and Wade Aust of Swiftown; brothers, George Aust and Lonnie Aust, both of Itta Bena and Paul Aust of Clearwater, Florida; sister, Ruby Bennit of Greenwood; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
