Hubert married his first wife, Pauline, while he was still in the Army during World War II.Pauline was a sister to Frank "Bud" Jarrell who married Hubert's youngest sister, Josephine. That made their children "double cousins." He and Pauline had four children; son: Jackie Hubert Murphrey; twin daughters: Jarol Sue and Carol Jan Murphrey and Cheryl Dianne Murphrey.
During the war, he said he was riding around in a hot tank most of the time.
A few years after Hubert and Pauline divorced, Hubert married Dorothy and adopted her mentally challenged young daughter, Darlene.
Hubert loved to go fishing. When he lived in Ben Wheeler, Texas he often could be found fishing at one of those man-made fishing ponds. You had to pay to fish there, but Hubert always "knew" he would catch some catfish if he fished there.
Hubert was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. He was one of my favorite relatives and I miss him a lot.
