Walter was the eldest child of Thompson Butler and Elizabeth Hamilton Webb. His mother was the daughter of Thomas Campbell and Mary Burns Hamilton. His siblings were Ballard and Dillard Webb. He married Lillie Damrell, the daughter of Harvey and Sylvania Stamper Damrell, on March 30, 1922 in Lee County Kentucky. To this union was born 3 daughters, Martha, Maude and Catherine. He served in the Army during WWI and died of lobar pneumonia.
