STROKE PROVES FATAL TO J.M. ROHRER
John Milton Rohrer, son of Hiram and Nancy Rohrer, was born on a farm northwest of Victor, February 25, 1882. He made his home in the Victor community all his life with the exception of four years.
In the year of 1910, he and John Tyler built the garage here in Victor which is now the Ford garage. Later Tyler sold his interest to William Rohrer, a brother of Milton, and it was then called the Rohrer garage. They sold the Maxwell, Stoddard and Dayton and the White Steamer cars, along with automobile supplies and repairs, and also ran an auto livery. They also maintained a blacksmith shop in the same building, shoeing horses and doing general blacksmith work.
He was united in marriage to Stella Rinehart of Victor and a short time after their marriage they started farming. After a few years they came to Victor to make their home, and later his wife passed away here in Victor.
Some years later he was united in marriage to Allie May Burrows of Marion, Iowa. Since then they have lived in Victor and on the farm northwest of Victor.
His health had not been good for some time, and after returning from Victor about five o'clock last Friday afternoon he had a stroke and was rushed to the St Francis hospital in Grinnell. In spite of the best of medical aid and care, the end came Sunday, February 1 at 11:40 a.m., having reached the age of 70 years, 11 months and 6 days.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ann Duran of St. Louis, Missouri; one son, Milton E. Rohrer at the McClellan air force base, Sacramento, California; one step-daughter, Mrs. Nadine Bull of Duluth, Minnesota; six grandchildren; one brother, Charles Rohrer and one sister, Mrs. Susie McBride, both of Victor, besides other relatives and many friends.
His parents, first wife, infant son and daughter, one step-daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Johnson, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held from the McAninch Chapel Wednesday, February 4, at two o'clock, with the Rev. Martin Greer and Rev. Charles W. Gross officiating. One song, "Thy Will Be Done" was sung by Mrs. Glen Schwiebert, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Milton Maack.
Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rehfeldt. Casket bearers were Wallace Rohrer, Bert Glass, Rex Rohrer, James Glass, Boyd Smith and Lloyd McBride. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Victor.
