John Stull Carson , Jr., 50, known affectionately as Johnny, was born on December 30, 1957, and passed away on May 29, 2008. He was preceded in death by his father, John Stull Carson, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Walter Barger and Mr. and Mrs. Hirste G. Carson, and his cousins, Brenda Barger and James B. Way, Jr. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Barger Carson, of Buchanan, Virginia; his brother, David Aiken Carson, of Denver, Colorado; aunts and uncles, James B. and Sue Way, of Roanoke, Virginia, the Reverend Walter Barger and Jeanne Barger of Memphis, Tennessee, Clay and Jean Carson of New Bern, North Carolina, and the Reverend Gale Lammey and Mary Hirste Lammey of Spruce Pine, North Carolina. He is also survived by numerous cousins and many dear friends. Johnny graduated from James River High School in 1976, where he was the president of his class, played varsity football and was on the National Honor Society. He was inducted in the James River High School Hall of Fame Knights of Distinction in 2005. Johnny attended Virginia Polytechnic and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia, and Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, Virginia, where he received a degree in radiological technology. He was certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technicians in Cardiovascular Interventional Technology. ; Johnny was also certified as a paramedic by the College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia. He will be remembered for his many years of service to the Buchanan Rescue Squad , which was one of his biggest passions in life. He joined the Rescue Squad while he was in high school, was a life member of the Squad, and served as Captain of the Squad for many years. Johnny was an Elder in the Buchanan Presbyterian Church, the President of the Botetourt County Association of Rescue Squads, and served on the Botetourt County Highway Safety Commission. He was the owner of Carson Para-Health Services, Incorporated. Johnny may be remembered by donations to the Buchanan Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 244, Buchanan, Virginia 24066. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, in the Buchanan Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Marina Gopadze and Rev. Walter Barger officiating. Interment will follow beside his father in Fairview Cemetery-Buchanan. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 1, 2008 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway Buchanan VA, 254-3000.
