| Birth: | Feb. 21, 1948 | | Death: | Jul. 9, 2005 | Canadian Parliament Member, Victims Rights Advocate. Charles "Chuck" Cadman was a co-founder of Crime, Responsibility and Youth (CRY) in 1993 after the stabbing death of his son Jessie in 1992. He also counselled youth who were likely to become violent. He ran and was elected as a Member of Parliment for Surrey North (BC) in 1997 under the Reform Party of Canada. It was here he introduced a Private Member's bill that proposed to raise the maximum jail term for parents whose children commit crimes while under their supervision - it was successfully made part of Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act in November 2000. He was re-elected under the Canadian Alliance and was made the Justice Critic. In 2004, he was defeated for the position with the Conservative Party, so he ran as an independent as was re-elected. It was at this time that it was discovered he had cancer. Shortly before his death, during a vote in Parliment that could have brought down the Government, Cadman was accused of being bribed for his vote but no charges were ever laid in the case.
