KNOXVILLE - Margaret L. Cochran, 88, Knoxville, died at 10:19 p.m. Thursday (May 29, 2008) at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born Nov. 7, 1919, in Monmouth, the daughter of Edward and Maggie Liona Albert Bullwinkle. She married Harley Laverne Cochran on Aug. 31, 1940, in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1989.
Surviving are a son, William (Dorothy) Cochran of LaGrange Park; two grandchildren, Erin Cochran and Matthew (Rachel) Cochran; a sister, Mildred Gillette of Monmouth; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Doris Ray, Grace Gillette and Adelia Banks; and three brothers, David Bullwinkle,
Howard Bullwinkle and Albert Bullwinkle.
She was reared and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband on a farm outside of Knoxville for many years. After retiring, they briefly lived in Galesburg and then settled in Knoxville. Margaret was a great cook and made delicious lunches at Appleton Grade School for a long time. Many adults still would come up to her and tell her how much they enjoyed her food when they were in school. She made the best sweet rolls and strawberry jam that her family had ever tasted. She was also an accomplished seamstress, a great housekeeper and an all-around lovely person. She will be greatly missed. She was a member of First Christian Church of Galesburg.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, with the Revs. Greg and Martha Jean Fitch officiating.
Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Lutheran World Relief, National Kidney Foundation or Galesburg First Christian Church.
