New Kensington
Peter Langer, 87, of Logans Ferry, New Kensington, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008. He was born Sept. 26, 1920, in McDonaldton, Somerset County, to the late John and Sarah Rose Langer and lived in Logans Ferry all his life. Mr. Langer was a 1939 graduate of Ken High and a radioman and waist gunner in the Army Air Forces during World War II. For almost a year, he was a POW in Bulgaria before receiving a Purple Heart for being wounded. After returning from the war, he went to work at the New Kensington Post Office as a letter carrier, retiring in 1983. Mr. Langer was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington; the Elks Plantation; the American Legion and VFW of Lower Burrell; the New Kensington Eagles, and Moose Post 53. Also preceded in death by sisters Elizabeth Barckhoff, Marie Kondzik, Agnes Chillinsky, Caroline Strenkowski and Alice P. Weber and nephews Dennis Strenkowski, Michael Stankiewiz and Kasey Swanger. Brother of John J. (Betty) Langer and Anna Mae DeMeo, of Arnold; Bernard D. (Joan) Langer, of New Kensington, and Margaret "Marge" Langer, of Logans Ferry. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, New Kensington. Prayers of transfer will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, followed by funeral Mass at 10 in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel Blout officiating. Entombment will be in the Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lower Burrell.
