The funeral for Ernest LeRoy Ferguson was Monday at 10:30
a.m., from the Church of Christ, Nelson. He died last Thursday.
He was born on a farm north of Nelson Feb. 2, 1900, to Fred
and Anna Laura Ferguson.
Ferguson lived most of his life in the Oak vicinity, attending rural schools there and farming.
He married Glada Shafer of Ruskin. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in July, 1971.
Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson had six children, Alice Thayer of York, Wilma Karraker of Denver, Ermalee Scroggin of Oak, Carolyn Heath of Loveland, Colo., David Dale Ferguson, who is deceased, and Shirley Mulkey of Riverside, Calif.
He became a Star mail carrier in 1936, using this as the
means of transporting his children and others along the
way to high school in Nelson.
His route was Oak, Nora and Nelson. A later route served Bruning, Carleton, Davenport, Oak and Edgar.
While still farming, the family delivered milk to the community of Oak.
His wife preceded him in death in 1972 and his son in 1963.
His parents, step-mother, three sisters and three brothers have also preceded him in death.
Besides his five children, he is survived by a sister, Dorothy Meyer, Palmdale, Calif., 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
The clergy were David Reppart and Duane Egle.
Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery.
Klawitter-Price Funeral Home, Nelson, was in charge of the arrangements.
