Johnny Ray "Sleepy" Adkins, 36, of Big Creek, departed this life Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Harts.
Born July 1, 1971, at Logan, he was a precious son of Robert Lee Adkins Sr. of Big Creek and the late Geraldine Mills Adkins. Also preceding him in death was his maternal grandparents, James B. and Beulah Mills, and his paternal grandparents, Earl and Cora Adkins.
Johnny was a former employee of Massey Energy where he drove a coal truck. He drove coal trucks for many other companies also and enjoyed doing body work.
Additionally, those left to cherish his memory include one sister, Angela Adkins of Big Creek; two brothers, Robert Lee (Amy) Adkins and Charles Edward (Kim) Adkins, both of Big Creek; two special step-grandchildren, Cameron Lee Lacey and Sierra Lacey; three nieces, Natasha Adkins and Abagail Adkins, both of Big Creek, and Addison Vance of Rossmore; one nephew, Jordan Adkins of Big Creek; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil Spry and Rev. Jimmy Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Adkins, Bryan Farley, Michael Vickers, J.D. Vickers, Scottie Sparks, Ricky Tomblin, Brian Compton and Travis Sparks.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
