A very sweet lady, May Jarvis Arnold survived her husband by nearly 15 years. She was the heart of her family.

May and Jim Arnold were the parents of two sets of fraternal twins, Loys & Louise and Clarence & Sadie, and two younger daughters, Audrey Marie and Lucille.

Their oldest daughter, Louise, was one of 16 teachers killed when the New London (Texas) School exploded due to a natural gas leak just after 3:00 p.m. March 18, 1937. The explosion also took the lives of 269 students in grades 5 through 11 and 8 members of the support staff. Some sources say the final death toll may have reached as high as 319. It ranks third in the deadliest natural disasters in the Lone Star State.

With the exception of Audrey Marie, who, early in her marriage, relocated with her husband to Southern California, all of Jim's and May's children were laid to rest in the family plot in Ebenezer Cemetery, as were May's beloved parents.

May Jarvis Arnold is remembered for her loving and winning ways.
