Hammond Advertiser - August 25, 1910
After an illness of about a week, Mr. Augustus Nicol passed away on Monday morning last. Not until Wednesday night did the illness assume anything like a serious nature. It was thought that he had an ordinary attack of summer grip. But during the latter portion of the week he was for the most part unconscious.

Mr. Nicol was born in Hammond June 25, 1846 and was thus 65 years of age at the time of his death. He was a son of Mr. Robert Nicol and spent his boyhood on the old home farm on the Bay road.

In 1878, he was married to Miss Mary L. Hicks, daughter of Mr. Andrus Hicks, Oak Point. Soon after his marriage he went to Colton and remained there until after the death of his father in 1881. At that time the home farm was divided and Mr. Nicol there built himself a home where he ever since resided.

Mr. Nicol was a very genial man. On account of his hearing he did not care to mingle much with people in social gatherings, but was ever pleasant to those he met, and gladly welcomed visitors to his home.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Ferguson at his late residence on Wednesday afternoon. The interment was in Fairview cemetery.

Mr. Nicol leaves a widow and son, William W., and three brothers, William, Charles and John, together with one sister, Mrs. Nancy Buss of Cortland.
