Musician. He was a drummer and founding member of the influential 1970s Canadian progressive rock band Rush. Formed in Toronto, Ontario Canada during 1968, the trio also consisted of bassist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and bassist Jeff Jones (who was replaced by Lee). In 1974, they recorded and released their self-titled debut album, "Rush." Rutsey departed shortly after and was replaced by Neil Peart. The group would go on to achieve much commercial success during the late 1970s and 1980s.
