|William Allum, I|
Inaccurate information is being circulated at subscription sites about William Allum, ca 1754-1840.
He was not born in Tennessee nor was he a son of John Hallum of North Carolina.
The misinformation originates with a popular genealogy subscription site that attempts to connect individuals to other individuals to form a world tree. When people do not understand those are JUST attempts and, therefore, SPECULATION, decades of erroneous family "history" can ensue.
Early documentation pertaining to William is his name ("William Allum") in the 1778 tax list for Spesutia Upper Hundred in Harford County, Maryland. In 1783 he is in Deer Creek Upper Hundred, also in Harford County. Subsequently, he is in Washington County, Pennsylvania where he may have arrived from Maryland as early as 1784. He is, of course, in the 1790 census for Washington County, PA.
Important information pertaining to ALLUM in Washington County could have been in Redstone church records, of which William was one of six original trustees. Redstone records seem not to exist. Among other things, William's burial location is elusive and may never be known. --DeeAnna
