Born in Burke County on December 27, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Robert Avery Hennessee and Flora Edith Newton Hennessee.
Mary was a life-long, active member of Zion Memorial United Methodist Church. She worked at the Drexel School cafeteria until her retirement and was also previously an employee of the Drexel Knitting Mill.
Mary loved to work outside, especially in her garden, and also enjoyed helping others.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary is survived by her daughter, Teresa Mary Grigg of Morganton; sons, Gary Grigg of Lincolnton, and Donald Grigg and wife, Ruth, of Germanton; a sister, Margaret Carswell of Morganton; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Graig Wilson Grigg; brothers, Robert, James, Russell, Carl, and Ed Hennessee; and sisters, Josie Watts, Helen Poteat, and Martha Preuss.
