Josephine M. Brown, 72, of Holley, died Monday at Lebanon Community Hospital.

A funeral service was conducted Thursday at Steckly-Tracewell Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Kane officiated and burial was in the Gilliland Cemetery.

She was born Josephine Kane on January 16, 1914 in Miller, Hand County, South Dakota. Mrs. Brown, who moved to Portland in 1941, worked in the shipyards during World War II. She moved to Sweet Home area in 1947 and worked in a plywood mill. She retired from Albany Frozen Foods Cannery in 1976.

She married Herman Brown Sr. on April 15, 1949, at Sweet Home. He survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Joan Hurley, Bend, Oregon; Rubye Stone, Eureka, California; Isla Wagner, Harrisburg, Oregon and Frieda Gibson, Clio, South Carolina; four sons, Herman Brown Jr., William O. Brown, Ted Brown and Roy Brown all of Sweet Home, Oregon; two sisters, Goldie Shaw, Foster, Oregon and Hazel Abel, Oklahoma City, Okalhoma; one brother, Theodore Kane, Corvallis, Oregon; 30 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Ermine Sewell in 1944; two sons, Herbert Brown and Hershel Brown, and two sisters, Sylvia Dixon and Pearl Lewis.
