THE CHARITON PATRIOT
March 19, 1931
Mrs. Geo. Homsher, formerly of this place, died in Pasadena, California, on March 13, 1931, aged 70 years 10 months and 7 days, after an extended illness with a cancer. She and her husband had for some time been making their home in California with their son, Harry Homsher, and their daughter Mrs. Nell Clowser. The remains were brought to Chariton, arriving here Wednesday, accompanied by her husband, and were taken to the Beardsley Funeral Home where funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Harry Secor, of the First Baptist church, after which interment took place in the Chariton cemetery.
Emma Elizabeth Goltry, daughter of Aaron and Sarah Goltry, was born in Cedar township, Lucas county, Iowa, on May 6, 1860. She grew to young womanhood in that vicinity and was married on June 16, 1878, to George Otis Homsher, who survives her. To this union eight children were born, two of them, Amos and Frank, preceded her in death. Those living are Clarence Homsher and Mrs. Bertha Retherford of Chariton; Harry H. and Mrs. Nell Clowser of Los Angeles, California; Warren H. of Lincoln, Nebraska; Clyde H. of the state of Washington.
The life of Mrs. Homsher, with the exception of a few years spent in California, had been lived in Chariton and vicinity. She was a woman loved by all who knew her for her many fine traits of character and her genial disposition. Her life had been spent in doing good for those about her and she will be greatly missed. A devoted and faithful wife and mother, a splendid neighbor, a true friend, has gone to her eternal reward.
The last days of this good woman were spent in pain, owing to the nature of her affliction. She was tenderly cared for during her last illness by those who loved her.
Besides her husband and children she is survived by fifteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two brothers, Will Goltry of Boone, Iowa and Ed Goltry of Red Oak, Iowa, both of whom were present at the last rites. Many friends join in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones.
