Eugene "Gene" E. Bischoff, 85, of Byron died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in Swedish-American Hospital, Rockford. He was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Scott Township, son of Paul and Esther Poliska Bischoff. He married Shirley Mae Hodapp on Oct. 11, 1947. Gene was a member and former elder and trustee of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood. He farmed in the Stillman Valley area for many years, was a 4-H leader for many years, served as superintendent of the swine department at the Ogle County Fair, served on Stillman Valley Elementary School Board and was an avid Cubs fan. Survived by wife, Shirley; daughter, Pamela Bischoff of Andalusia; son, Thomas (Mary) Bischoff of New Windsor; and granddaughter, Karissa Marsh of Chicago. Predeceased by parents and brother, Norman. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lindenwood, with the Rev. David Yarrington, pastor, officiating. Burial in Big Mound Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
