Funeral mass for Nelson J. "Bucky" Ramie, 88, a resident of St. Joseph's Nursing Home, Ogdensburg formerly of Potsdam, will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary's Church in Potsdam with Rev. Garry Giroux celebrating. Burial in the spring will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ogdensburg. Mr. Ramie passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the nursing home, where he had been a resident since May of 2006.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Mary's Church, 17 Lawrence Avenue, Potsdam, New York 13676.

Surviving Mr. Ramie are a son, Darrell Ramie of Wurtsboro; two granddaughters, Vicki and Robert Illenberg of Middletown and Darnell and Robert Fuller of Auburn; nephews Joseph Ramie of Lisbon and Nelson Tynon of Ogdensburg; and nieces Pat Hastings of Plattsburgh and Donna Moore of Fort Myers, FL.

He was predeceased by his wife Harriet; brothers Joseph, Hank and Frank; and sisters Rose Mallette, Lucy Chapman, Philomena Miller, Olive Martin and Elizabeth Tynon.

Born January 21, 1921 in Ogdensburg, he was the son of the late Nelson J. and Victoria (Girard) Ramie. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Ogdensburg Free Academy. On October 4, 1941 he married Harriet L. Lundy at St. Mary's Church in Ogdensburg with Msgr. Beraby celebrating.

He worked for Eddie Sholette at a butcher shop in Ogdenburg, then at Alcoa in Massena before being drafted in to the United States Army during WWII, which he served on the European Theatre in France and Germany where he was wounded in battle, he was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon his return he worked at the Ogdensburg A&P till 1953 then at the A&p in Canton as meat manager and later at the Potsdam A&P as meat manager until his retirement in September of 1974.

Mr. Ramie enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a Charter Member of the Potsdam Elks, Potsdam VFW, Moose Lodge of Potsdam, past Board of Directors member of the Barney Pond Club, and a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Potsdam.
