My mother was born Jan. 30, 1913 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Julius and Bertha Zimmerman. She was the oldest of 3, her brother William and sister Freida Eleanor. As a child she moved to the St. Johns area of Portland, Oregon where she graduated from Roosevelt High School. Her last year of high school, her mother died as a result of being hit by a truck while crossing a street to catch a trolley car. She was only 36. My mother worked as a housekeeper for several years before going to work for Fred Meyer. She met my father in 1947 and after only knowing each other for 1 month, they married in Reno, Nevada July 19, 1947. My brother Michael Allen was born May 16,1948, Linda Eleanor born July 23,1949, Julie Kathleen born January 22, 1955 and Daniel Joseph born July 3, 1957. Danny was killed in 1996.
I'll always remember my mother as being a very loving person who cared deeply for her children. I have some wonderful memories of her. She was a wonderful cook and she always made Christmas very special for us. My parents were married for 51 years when my mother died. My father died in 2003. After 10 years, I still miss her every day.
