Billie Wise Eckles was born on October 6, 1929 to Gussie Box Wise and Denby Wise in Coleman County, Texas.
She died on December 1, 2007 in her home in Duncanville, Texas after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her
family at the end of her life.
A graduate of Hardin-Simmons University, she found a career in public education as a teacher for 32 years. Early in her career
she taught business related classes and art. She ended her career as the librarian of Lakeview High School in San Angelo. She
was married to Jesse O. Eckles, Jr., an assistant principal at San Angelo High School. Following the death of her husband in
1986, she retired from the San Angelo Independent School District and moved to Duncanville, Texas to be near her daughter.
Billie was an avid bridge player, collector of antiques and ardent sports fan. Apart from her varied interests, she was a devoted
and loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Eckles Camp and her son-in-law, Steven S. Camp of Duncanville, Texas; her
grandchildren, Steven Scott Camp, Jr., Dawn Amanda Camp and Jessica Dean Camp of Duncanville, Texas; her sister, Claudia
Rutherford of Santa Anna, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse O. Eckles, Jr. and by her brother, Jake McCreary.
Graveside services were held at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, Texas on December 22, 2007.
