Our town and the community were greatly shocked and saddened Sunday by the sad news that Uncle George Cole was dead.
Mr. Cole was born in Randolph Co. on Sept. 10, 1845 and had just passed his 80th birthday. He was one of the old confederate vets for there are very few now having served years in the civil war.
He was a member of the Baptist Church were he had served as Deacon for a number of years.
Mr. Cole was loved all that knew him and every one spoke of him as Uncle George.
He leaves a wife and several Nephews to mourn for him. His body was laid to rest at the M. E. Cemetery Monday afternoon with Masonic honors of which order he was a faithful member.
The relatives and wife have the sympathy of their many friends in their sad bereavement for it can be truly said "A True Good Man from our town and community has gone."
