TOWNSEND At West Branch, Iowa, on the 3d of Ninth month, 1878, Elma C., wife of Jesse R. Townsend, and daughter of the late Brinton Darlington, aged 37 years. This dear Friend and her husband were engaged with her father among the Indians in the early part of his labors, where she rendered valuable service as a wife and daughter, and by her quiet and lovely Christian walk exemplified the language of the apostle, " The life that I now live I live by the faith of the Son of God." As through her life in health, so in her sickness, which was of a lingering nature, she reflected the image of her divine Lord and Master, and peacefully passed away from the scene of earth to the inheritance of the redeemed, leaving a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn, yet not as those who have no hope.

"How sweet it will be in that beautiful land,
So free from all sorrow and pain,
With songs on our lips and harps in our hands,
To meet one another again."
