Anchorage resident Martha Elizabeth Bedford Walker, 93, died of pneumonia Sept. 29, 1995, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. A funeral was at All Saints' Episcopal Church with the Ven. Norman Elliott, the Rev. Ralph Wagner and the Rev. James Basinger officiating. A graveside service followed at Angelus Memorial Park. Pallbearers included J.B. Walker, Greg Walker, Grant Walker, Keith Walker, William Cantrell, Lyle Herbert, Travis Cantrell and Bryan Cantrell.
Mrs. Walker was born Oct. 8, 1901, in Commerce, Texas, and attended schools in Dallas and San Antonio. She married in Dallas in 1920 and moved to Alaska in 1947. She worked as a chief records clerk for the government at Fort Richardson. Mrs. Walker was active in the Anchorage Duplicate Bridge Club, having achieved the rank of Life Master. She was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her children, Gwendolyn Herbert of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Jeanne Cantrell, Earle Walker and Jay Walker, all of Anchorage; 17 grandchildren and 22 great- grandchildren; four sisters, Winifred Bedford and Mary Joyce of Dallas, Florence O'Neal of Jackson, Miss., and Cecelia Boyle of Fort Worth, Texas; and brother, Fred Bedford of Grand Prairie, Texas. Arrangements were handled by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
