ELWOOD
- At Ferguson Street, Woodville, on Thursday, November 7th, Frederick William, eldest and well-beloved son of Frederick and Sarah Elwood; aged 9½ years.
* It is our painful duty to record the death of Mr Elwood's eldest boy Fred, which occurred yesterday afternoon shortly after three o'clock. The cause of death was inflammation of the brain due to over-study, but the complaint is supped to have been aggravated by a blow from a cricket ball received at play about two months ago. Dr Milne was in constant attendance on the little suffer, but held out no hopes of his recovering a fortnight ago. The funeral takes place at four o'clock on Sunday afternoon. Much sympathy is expressed for both Mr and Mrs Elwood in this time of trial.

DEATH of their FATHER
King Country Chronicle, 11 June 1931
The news of the death of Mr Frank Elwood of Kaeaea, will be received with regret by a wide circle of friends in the Aria and Te Kuiti districts. Mr Elwood had been an inmate of the hospital for several weeks and returned to his home some weeks ato although he was not in the best of health. Yesterday Mr Elwood walked across the paddocks to a neighbour, when he became ill and suddenly expired.
Mr Elwood was born in London and was a cabinetmaker by trade. As a young man he came to New Zealand and spent some years in Canterbury, afterwards coming to the North Island, where he was engaged in the building of the Main Trunk Line. Twenty-six years ago he took up a block of land at Kaeaea, where he and his family have resided since.
Mr Elwood was imbued with the true pioneering spirit. He was an energetic and hard worker and notwithstanding the many trials incidental to carving out a home in the wilderness, was always cheerful and hopeful. He was held in high respect by a wide circle of friends, for Frank Elwood's word was his bond.
Mr Elwood leaves a wife and two sons and four daughters to mourn his loss. One son made the supreme sacrifice at the war.
