Russian Premier. He was a prominent politician of the Soviet and Russian Union. He held the position of 10th Premier of the Soviet Union from September 1985 to January 1991. Before embarking on his political journey, he earned his degree from the renowned Ural Polytechnic Institute in 1959. He began his career as a welder at the Sverdlovsk Uralmash Plant, and his hard work and dedication led him to become the chief engineer and eventually the Factory Director of the Uralmash Production Amalgamation in 1970. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1956 and held several notable positions during his political career, including being a Full member of the 26th, 27th, and 28th Central Committee from 1981 to 1991, a member of the 25th Secretariat from 1982 to 1985, a full member of the 26th and 27th Politburo from 1985 to 1990, and the Head of the Economic Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1982 to 1985. He was also the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the People's Patriotic Union of Russia, a member of the State Duma, and the Russian Federation Senator from Belgorod Oblast. Additionally, he contested in the Presidential Election of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in 1991 but was defeated by Boris Yeltsin. He was recognized for his exceptional service to the country and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour twice, in 1966 and 1985, the Order of the October Revolution in 1971, the Order of Lenin in 1976 and 1979, and the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 4th class. He passed away at the age of 94.
