John Kelly
John Kelly, son of Alexander and Jane Kelly, was born November 9, 1861 at Clare Kansas, and departed this life September 23, 1937. He was one of a family of thirteen children. As a youth he attended what was known at that time as "The Kelly School" He was united in marriage to Sarah Millikan January 29, 1889. to this union were born three daughters, Mr. Kelly lived all of his life in the vicinity of Clare, Kansas. He farmed on an extensive scale, taking great pride in his home and farm. He operated one of the early threshing machines in that section. He also took an active part in the work of the Grange organization and other community affairs.
Surviving are his widow Mrs. Sarah Kelly; three daughters: Mrs. Ruth Rice, Gardner; Mrs. Helen Green, Dalhart, Texas; Mrs. Daisy Phillips, Olathe; also ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; five sisters: Mrs. Jane Atwood and Mrs. George Dent, Gardner; Mrs. Millikan, Olathe; Mrs. Birdie Shields, Topeka; and Mrs. Sadie Ryan, Kansas City, Mo., also three brothers: Moses Kelly, Olathe; Frank Kelly, Los Angles , California; and Thomas Kelly, Rayton, Colorado.
Funeral services were held in the Julien Chapel Saturday afternoon Sept. 25 at 2:30 conducted by the Rev. Chas. H. Husband Pastor of the Community church. Interment in the Olathe Cemetery.
