Another Pioneer Gone.

Wednesday afternoon the spirit of Wm. Averett passed peacefully from this life to the great beyond. The cause of his death was stomach and heart trouble from which he had been suffering for the last five years. He was confined to the house practically all the time and to his bed months at a time.

Mr. Averett was one of those many stalwart pioneers who not only helped to blaze the trail to this beautiful little valley but to the state of Utah. He drove a herd of sheep with the first company emigrants of 1847, although he was but eight years old at the time.

Born in a willow wickiup in which his parents had taken refuge upon being driven from their homes by mob violence, cradled in the persecutions to which the followers of the Church leaders were subjected at that time, and privations, he was well fortified to become a pioneer in the Rocky Mountain wilderness.

He was honest, kind and sincere toward his fellow men and affectionate and indulgent to his family. Wm. Averett was born July 31, 1839 in Hancock county, Ill, and came to Utah in the first company of pioneers in 1847.

He was one of the first pioneers to this valley in 1859, but being unmarried he did not establish a permanent home here until sometime later.

He married Miss Elizabeth Hicken, January 1st, 1865. There were born to them nine children, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild, all of whom are living, in fact, this is the first death in that large family circle.

Mr. Averett was a farmer and stockman and a highly respected citizen in this community.

Funeral services will be held at the stake house at 1 o'clock this afternoon.
