Jacob Harper was born in Virgina which later became Pendleton Couny, West Virginia when the state was divided in 1846. He married Phoebe Harmon in Harman Hills, Pendleton Co., VA (now WV). Twelve children are recorded for this family.

The Sugar Creek monument is believed to be that of Jacob based on the fact that his daughter Mahala remained in OH and family lore states that after relocating his family to MO that he returned to OH to return horses used for the trip. This information has not been proven.

The parents of Jacob are now believed to be Adam and Christina Harper. DNA testing for proven descendants of Adam, Phillip the Pioneer and Jacob the Pioneer Harper of Pendleton County W VA have proven that none of the three were related. This is a link to an in depth analysis and research conducted by a descendant of Simeon Harper.
