Lifelong Alaskan Paul Thomas ''Tom'' Koppenberg, 45, died April 24, 1997, at his home in Fox near Fairbanks. A memorial service was at the Palmer Train Depot on South Alaska Street in Palmer. His ashes were buried at a private family ceremony.

Mr. Koppenberg was born in Jan. 25, 1952, in Palmer. In November 1963, he and his family moved to Cordova. He graduated from Copper Valley High School in 1970. In 1971 the family moved back to Palmer, where he lived until moving to the Fairbanks area in 1989. His family wrote that they grieve deeply over their loss and miss him sorely, but also rejoice for him as he is now in a place of victory, free from the pain and sorrow that followed him much of his life. They added that he was much beloved.

Mr. Koppenberg is survived by his parents, Hazel Koppenberg of Palmer and Jerome Koppenberg of Cantwell; his wife, Roberta; and daughter, Nadia, both of Kenai; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hally and Michael Truelove and their children of Wasilla; Sally Koppenberg and Jay Erickson of Palmer; brother and sister-in-law, Aaron and Angela Koppenberg and their children of Palmer; grandmothers, Lola Koppenberg of Big Lake and Pearl Barnhardt of Moses Lake, Wash.; and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who live throughout Alaska. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in care of Sally Koppenberg, HC04 Box 9068, Palmer, 99645. Arrangements were made by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
