16-year-old Satellite High student, "fooling around" with a powerful pistol Friday in his home, shot and killed himself.

Dead was John Alvin Henry, struck in the head by a .22 caliber bullet from a magnum pistol, sheriff's deputies said. Henry was the son of M-Sgt. and Mrs. Horace Henry of 200 N. Berkley St., north of Satellite Beach.

Deputies said Henry, a high school junior, was "fooling around" with the gun with several friends when it accidentally fired. His parents weren't home.

His companions called an ambulance, which rush him to Patrick AFB Hospital, deputies said. An Air Force helicopter transferred him to Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando but he died en route.

Henry is survived by an older brother away at college.
