Tom Simmons was my great-uncle and the son of Jefferson Simmons, Jr. and Rebecca Elizabeth LAUNIUS Simmons.
He was the grandson of Jefferson Simmons,Sr. and Elizabeth KINDER Simmons and the great-grandson of Moses Simmons.
When Tom was two years old, his sister, Jeff, was born. His father had died that same year.
Through his mother's first marriage, he had half siblings, Wesley and Archie Jordan.
His father had been widowed and through that first marriage, he had half siblings, Hattie, who was my grandmother, Henry, Bill, and Alfred.
After his father's death, his mother married one more time. He then was given three more half siblings. They were Ivy, Willard, and Robert Middleton.
He was 16 years old when he lost his mother to typhoid fever. She was only 40 years old.
Uncle Tom died in the Westwood Hills Care Center in Poplar Bluff, MO.
He had lived in Poplar Bluff for many years and worked for the Akers family in the farming business.
Uncle Tom had never married and was just short of his 87th birthday when he died from heart failure.
