ABERDEEN Pompie J. Harris died Sunday, March 5, 2000. She was the third child of a family of thirteen born Nov. 25, 1910, in Aberdeen to John D. and Lillie Vasser James, who preceded her in death. She was a lifelong member of New Hebron M.B. Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11 at New Hebron Missionary Baptist Church in Aberdeen with the Rev. George Vance officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Jackson Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Gloristein Ryland, and her husband, Homer, of West Point; two granddaughters, Chandra and Angelet Ryland; two grandsons, Andre Ryland of West Point and Homer Ryland Jr. of Jeffersonville, Ind.; three sisters, Johnnie Lou Baker of Aberdeen, Essie Chandler and her husband, Alex, of Albany, N.Y., and Annie E. Davis of East St. Louis, Ill.; three brothers, Jessie James and his wife, Louise, and Ladie James, all of Aberdeen, and Benjamin James and his wife, Hazel, of Warren, Ohio; four stepchildren, Vickie Richardson and her husband, Joe, and Martha Hinds, all of Clarksdale, Zilmon Harris of Detroit, Mich., and Levera Chandler and her husband, James, of Aberdeen; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Cooperwood; her second husband, Professor Levie Harris; her parents; a sister; and five brothers.
