Beverly enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 15 March 1862 at Winterham, Virginia. He was mustered as a Private in Company C, 23rd Virginia Infantry. He was wounded at the Battle of Antiemtam aka Battle of Sharpsburg and taken prisoner. He died in a union hospital on J.H. Grove's farm near Antietam/Sharpsburg, Maryland on 17 Septmber 1862.
