Called By Death

Mrs. August Nelsen, a long time and respected resident of Kennard, and whose sudden illness was noted in our columns last week, passed quietly from the scenes of earth to heaven on Monday morning, after having lain in an unconscious state since the previous Wednesday evening. Her death was not attended by any evident pain or suffering, but was the quiet passing away of one who has always been loved by her neighbors and acquaintances.

She leaves behind her a family of well respected sons and daughters who feel keenly the loss of a mother who was also a life-long companion.

Mrs. Nelsen was for many years a faithful and earnest worker in the Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, and was honored by her membership on the official board, as well as having served as President of the Ladies' Aid Society and being actively engaged in the work of the W. C. T. U.

We append the following sketch of her life which was read at the funeral service:

Johanna Lycke was born in Denmark, Nov. 17, 1849. She was married to August Nelsen May 18, 1871. Eleven children were born to them, five sons and six daughters, two daughters having previously died, leaving nine children and husband to survive her.

They came of Omaha, Neb., from Denmark Nov. 1874. Moved to Washington County, Nebraska, 1866, where they have since resided. She died on Monday, Dec. 12, aged 61 years and 22 days.

The funeral was held from Grace Methodist Episcopal Church Wednesday noon, the Rev. Dr. Hiller having charge of the services.

A feature of the services was the number of beautiful floral designs from the various organizations and friends; there being many more than could be readily carried in the hearse. Interment at the Kennard Cemetery.
