Services Are On Thursday For August Matzen
Funeral services are Thursday, November 13, at 2 p.m. for August Herbert Matzen, 73, who died November 11, 1980, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Rev. Russell Saltzman is conducting the services that are being held at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Burial is in the Kennard Cemetery.
August Herbert Matzen was born in Kennard, Nebraska, on April 2, 1907 to August and Emma Beckman Matzen. He married Anna Hansen on April 9, 1924, in Kennard. He was a member of the Masons. A farmer, he lived in Kennard until 1956 when he retired and moved to Arizona for health reasons. He lived in Kennard and Tempe, Arizona, during his retirement.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Anna of Blair; two sons, Arnold Matzen of Kennard and Marlin Matzen of Blair; and one daughter, Mrs. Sam (Lleanna) Wright of Kennard. Two brothers, William Matzen of Wellington, Colorado, and Chris Matzen of St. Helens, Oregon; one sister, Carrie Christensen of Blair; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive him.
Clair Cowing is the organist. Homer Nielsen is providing the vocal music.
Pallbearers are Ivan Andersen Kenneth White, LeRoy McCann, Milo Christensen, Ray Fackler and Norman Matzen. Honorary pallbearers are Bradley Matzen, Clark Matzen, Jeff Matzen, Mauri Wright, Monte Wright and Sam A. Wright.
