| Birth: | Oct. 29, 1898 Albright Preston County West Virginia, USA | | Death: | Aug. 5, 1972 Kingwood Preston County West Virginia, USA |  US Congressman, Jurist. He was educated at schools in Kingwood County and enlisted for World War I, serving as an Army Private. In 1923 he graduated from the West Virginia University Law School, attained admission to the bar and began a practice in Kingwood. In 1926 he served as Kingwood's Mayor, and he was Preston County's Prosecuting Attorney from 1929 to 1944. Snyder returned to the Army for World War II, serving from 1941 until his discharge as a Colonel in 1946. In 1946 Snyder was Director of Surplus Property for the Department of the Interior's Division of Territories and Island Possessions. In 1946 he was a successful Republican candidate for the US House of Representatives and served one term, 1947 to 1949. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1948 and for election to the US House in 1950. In 1953 Snyder became a West Virginia Circuit Court Judge, serving until his 1971 retirement. He also served as President of the West Virginia Judicial Association and was a member of the West Virginia Judicial Council. (bio by: Bill McKern)
